There are a total of 229 local fire departments in Vermont of which thirteen (13) are considered full-time departments. Of the thirteen full-time departments, only one fire department is a true full-time department in that it uses full-time personnel exclusively. The other “full-time” fire departments are combination departments. At least one is only full-time during the day with nights and weekends being on-call.
